About

Gregg Deal and his wife Megan are at it again with a new creative endeavor under the umbrella of their baby, Modern Bird Studios.  When they found out they were expecting their first child back in 2005, they were beyond excited at the new changes that were coming to their life, including decorating their first nursery.  Megan was loudly hoping for a little girl, and Gregg was secretly hoping for a human.  They were ecstatic to find out they were going to have a daughter who they named Sage.  During their quest for art to decorate Sage’s nursery, they were disappointed in their available choices.  Now they’ve decided to do something about it.  Hello, ModTots by Modern Bird!

At an early age, Gregg, immersed himself in art and found a particular appreciation for urban art. In college, he studied classic drawing and painting, but realizing that this type of living probably wouldn’t support a family, he expanded his abilities to include graphic design also. He earned a BFA in Painting and Graphic Design. Modern Bird Studios and ModTots by Modern Bird are a combination of all of his artistic experience all rolled into one. Gregg is the artistic ronin and design samurai here at Modern Bird Studios and ModTots—he’s the looks.

After earning a BA in Marketing Communications, Megan worked for 7 years in a pressure cooker known as business development in the Information Technology staffing arena, specifically with small to mid-sized government integrators. She left all of this behind her when her daughter Sage was born in June of 2006. After the economy sucker punched their household in September of 2009, she and Gregg put their heads together and created Modern Bird Studios. Now she juggles the kids and manages the marketing, social media, and business development of both Modern Bird Studios and ModTots at the same time—she’s the brains.

Sage has been begging to join the Modern Bird Studios team, and she finally got her time to shine as Gregg and Megan conceived the idea of ModTots. Sage was heavily involved in the decision-making process, including what animals to create (she would not budge on the hippo—there HAD to be a hippo or else she was walking off the job) and colors. Sage is the social tyrannosaurus rex of her preschool, loves all things pink and purple, princesses, and Jesse from Toy Story. She wants to be a ‘mom’ when she grows up, and she recently announced that she has a boyfriend. Heaven help her parents…

Phoenix is the mascot of ModTots. He doesn’t have much input yet that we understand, but he is a big talker. When he switches to English, we will be able to consider what he has to say and his thoughts on the direction of ModTots. For now, he loves Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, dancing when a good beat comes on, and throwing all the food that his mother carefully and thoughtfully cuts up for him for each of his meals.
